Head of Engineering (work-from-home)

You’ll blend people leadership with technical strategy to guide talented, remote engineering teams to deliver high-quality features and system improvements - while building a culture that empowers people to do the best work of their careers. What You’ll Do

  • People Leadership & Coaching: Mentor engineers and team leads; level up skills, autonomy, and collaboration. Engineers feel supported, stretched, and safe to experiment. Build a culture of ownership, inclusive feedback, and continuous improvement.

  • Performance Management: Set clear goals and metrics that drive accountability in a positive, growth-oriented way. Run practical performance systems that raise the bar and celebrate wins. 

  • Technical Strategy: Partner with leads to make thoughtful tradeoffs between new features and platform health. Ensure we invest in quality, reliability and scalability, aligned to clear business goals.

  • Innovation & AI Enablement: Encourage experimentation with modern tooling (including AI) to streamline workflows, reduce busywork, lift productivity and accelerate delivery - responsibly and securely.

  • Remote Excellence: Use async-first habits well; know when a quick call unblocks faster. Keep communication crisp, transparent, and inclusive across time zones.

  • Cross-Functional Alignment: Collaborate with Product and other partners to set priorities, shape roadmaps, and deliver outcomes that matter to our customers..

What You Bring

Experience

  • Early experience as a software engineer and several years in a formal or de facto leadership role (EM, etc.).

  • SaaS startup experience preferred (approx. 100–250 people).

  • Proven success leading remote teams with strong async practices.

Skills

  • Solid technical foundation; can guide decisions and weigh tradeoffs across competing solutions.

  • Business-minded judgment: you balance product velocity with platform investments.

  • Change leadership: you help teams navigate transitions with clarity and calm.

  • Hands-on experience with our (or similar) tech stack (.Net, React & Postgres).

  • Engineering degree or equivalent practical background.

  • A track record of creating learning loops - guilds, brown bags, pairing, or mentorship programs.

  • Guiding teams through change - in process, architecture, and ways of working.

  • Balancing autonomy with accountability (no micromanaging; yes to clear outcomes).

  • Making smart calls on infrastructure and system design under real-world constraints.
